Pod bremenom krivde in sramu nekatere nune izkusijo krizo vere, ne le v popuščanju predanosti Bogu, temveč tudi v krhanju stroge hierarhije in zapovedi poslušnosti v samostanu, medtem ko se pobožnost drugih še okrepi.
